Benefits

Enviro

The recovery, recycling, refurbishment and redeployment of “end of life” personal transport vehicles (PTVs), such as bikes, produces benefits for the natural environment, such as:

  • reduced greenhouse gas emissions by using recovered materials rather than mining for and manufacturing from new and finite materials;
  • reduced air pollution by keeping more PTVs on the road for longer – rather than combustion engines;
  • reduced volumes to landfill disposal – when Australia is behind on its waste reduction targets and doesn’t compare well to many other countries;
  • conservation of finite natural resources including metal ores and fossil fuels, and;
  • environmental awareness among riders and others in the bike sector.

Social

The recovery, recycling, refurbishment and redeployment of “end of life” personal transport vehicles (PTVs), such as bikes, produces social sustainability benefits, such as:

  • greater health and well-being by promoting and extending PTV usage and the “mobility revolution”;
  • employment opportunity for people from disadvantaged backgrounds;
  • fairness, fun and opportunity through ”Bike Equity” such as the distribution of free bikes to kids who need them, and;
  • inclusiveness and community capital through our training programs, including providing skills to people from developing countries, and;
  • development of a new business category in the circular economy.
