Giving new life to old rides!
Quentin’s beloved secondhand bike served him well over 40 years!
A few word from Quentin (the shortened version)…
“You were the first gift from my beloved, for Christmas 1979. Second hand even then, but a Raleigh, a venerable British marque and in good condition. You and her trusty custom-built steed have nestled together under the house for much of the time since, just like your owners above.
Together we adventured - at first on weekends of freedom throughout NSW. We survived the perilous descent of Brown Mountain in the pouring rain that Easter. Your rims were hot by the time we reached the bottom of Mt Bualo on a sunnier day.
The daily commute. Clovelly - Rushcutters Bay - Alexandria. Rinse and repeat for nearly eight years.
A car finally arrived for a growing family. By then work was on the other side of the Harbour and 26 km each way was not a feasible commute. The occasional pedal around the park was fun with the boys but insufficient to keep the maintenance up to scratch.
I wouldn’t, couldn’t, send you to the big melting pot or even worse, the tip. I’ve kept the seat, the one bought years ago with long trips in mind. It’s more comfortable than the one designed for younger bums. For the rest, there’s a workshop that transfigures old bikes into inexpensive new ones. They can make the decision.
Guido, at Revolve ReCYCLING smiled and said “Oh yes, we can give that one a second life”. “Third actually” I said, with a smile even bigger than Guido’s. Perhaps some young person on a tight budget will come along and Find a first gift for their newly beloved."
And that`s how here at Revolve ReCYCLING we are giving new life to old rides.
